Sin City (2005)

“Walk down the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything.”

Certainly unexpected, co-directed by the man who swore he’d never work with Hollywood again, Sin City is a gritty, violent film noir retelling of the comic book series of the same name. Perhaps the greatest filming of a comic book ever. 5/5 not for the squeemish.

Batman Begins (2005)

Anew. It fell upon Christopher Nolan (wizard of Memento) to revive the legacy of the BatMan. Retelling the story of the loner billionaire Bruce Wayne who lost everything as a Child and takes up the fight against crime in the dusk of the night, this is truly a film in the spirit of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight. 5/5.

The Butterfly Effect (2004)

Evan is a troubled youth with a troubled past. To get by he forced himself to blackout bad memories from an early age, and at adolescence these memories come back to haunt him. Remembering these memories also allows him to revisit his past and alter it and his life. 4/5

Walking Tall (2004)

So you come back from the army after 8 years killing (where exactly?) and you go into the casino and start a fight – you get thrown out and beaten up, so of course you come back later with a 2-by-4 and smash up the place and the security. Then you go to trial, deny any guilt and get acquitted … AND elected Sheriff! Where? Only in Hollywood, and specifically in Walking Tall… and then the action starts! 3/5

High Fidelity (2000)

A people movie about love and the important things in life. The story centers around Rob (John Cusack) and his little record store, and his attempts to cope with the fact that he’s been dumped yet again. This was a great film, 5/5!
