Game woes caused police turn-out!

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

Sometimes the gaming Experience can be taken to seriously, even by your neighbours. According to TV2/Nettavisens SpillMagasinet and Bergens Tidende this was the case recently in Haugesund. Why someone would take a game so seriously is beyond me… even more so since it was a football manager game – crikey!

PlayStation Portable

Monday, June 27th, 2005

You know, loving gadgets I guess it wasn’t hard for one of my friends to sucker me into buying the PSP. I’ve had it 2 months now, and I have one game :D The one game that came in the box… (to be fair I’ve ordered 3 more, 1 for me, 1 for the kid and 1 for the both of us … maybe ;) )

But what is so GREAT about it is… these people have managed to make their own programs run on it! Of course Sony’s shitting their pants – but I love it. I can now have homemade games (like Casino Addict, and Rick Dangerous) for free… aswell as other system emulators! That’s right, the little PlayStation that could can now emulate GameBoy, GBAdvanced, Super Nintendo, Turbo Grafx-16, Sega Genesis and a whole bunch of other systems. What is so great about that is that as a “gamer” I can finally try out lots of old but good games that ;

1. I never had a system to use on (come on, as a kid I had limited funds, and so did my parents – the C64 was enough)

2. I can enjoy games/systems that never was available in my country (being only 4 million people makes us not a very attractive market for struggling businesses).

3. I don’t need to pay! Now this would border on Piracy (I know I know) but the fact is I would 99.9% certainly never have spent a dime on any of these systems/games anyways because I simply can’t be arsed to play a game for that long. The only games I’ve spent a good deal of time on since 1992 has been a few co-ops or head-2-head games along a few good friends.

Blue HD-RayDVDs?

Monday, June 27th, 2005

When finally HD-READY screens begin appearing in Norway (no sight of content yet – though Canal Digital has promised “something”) and several years of internet rallying for Sony and Toshiba to agree on ONE format, and them banding back and forth this entire springs… rumour has it that yes, we will indeed have not one, but two competing high definition “DVD” formats by 2006.

Now, how many still uses a BETA machine? Or a VCR2000 for that matter? Or a DCC tape? What about high-def CD’s? SACD? DVDA? Have they learned so little?

Competing formats will lead to the failure of both in my opinion as too many consumers will take a seat on the fence to see how things will end up. With movie distributors evenly spread between the 2 reigning formats they are both fucked. I give Sony and edge since they have products on the marked sooner and have more datacapacity… but what is BluRay?! If you have TV, or HDTV for that matter… do you want BluRay… or do you want HD-DVD? I fear Joan Americana is in for a confusing marketing campaign…

Done…?

Monday, June 27th, 2005

Well, the transfer of my multiple old posts is done… all that remains is to fix up the theme. I think I’ll leave that for another day…

I must say I’m rather impressed with the entire WordPress package (apart from the upgrade thing), though it seems the themes are much more complicated to do now than with b2 – or maybe it was just me using b2 in ways it really wasn’t supposed to be… we’ll see how this progresses.

In the meantime, since leaving the NWN world of Exaria back in 2004 it seems things have been shook up good, as their admin pulled the forums this weekend and told everyone to chill. :D Oh well, I told him he needed to make some changes…

Once again…

Weell… I upgraded the server; which seems to have broken my b2 installation. Since it was killed off several years ago I decided to have a look at an upgrade to WordPress – b2’s official replacement.

Once upon a time there seems to have been an upgrade function – but alas it does not work with the current incarnation of WordPress. This means that I’ll start from scratch on my main blog, and repost my old posts (not that there were too many of them…) Unfortunately this also means that the Frank Miller Library and the Speedingbullets sites will be down untill I can fix a conversion script (especially the Frank Miller Library is too large for me to manipulate manually…)
